About Us
Our Mission
The Cumbria Police Dog Benevolent Fund is a non-profit charity dedicated to supporting the courageous and loyal retired police dogs of Cumbria. We aim to help and assist their new owners with the costs of expensive vet bills, ensuring that these brave and well-serving canines can enjoy a long, happy, and healthy retirement.
Our History
Our journey began in 2010 under the original name, Cumbria Police Dog Pensioners. We were founded by a small team of dedicated volunteers who recognised the need to provide financial assistance for retired police dogs, many of whom have worked tirelessly for years protecting our community. In 2023, following our growth and establishment, we were officially granted charity status under our new name, the Cumbria Police Dog Benevolent Fund.
What We Do
Cumbria’s retired police dogs often face significant health challenges in their retirement, a result of the strenuous nature of their service. This can lead to costly veterinary treatments that place a financial burden on their new owners. Our team of passionate volunteers works tirelessly to raise money to cover these costs. We currently support 23 retired Cumbria Police Dogs, which include a variety of breeds such as German Shepherds, Belgium Malinois, Dutch Herders, Springer Spaniels, Labradors, and Cocker Spaniels.
Our Impact
By adopting a retired police dog, owners are giving a forever home to a true hero. Our support ensures that they can do so without having to worry about potentially heartbreaking medical costs. Every donation and volunteer effort directly impacts the quality of life for these courageous animals, allowing them to receive the best care possible.
